Academic Team: The Academic Bowl Team consists of a group of students that meets twice a week for practices. Students participate in various trivia competitions in the categories of history, geography, mathematics, arts, language, sports, science, and culture. The purpose of the Academic Team is to broaden a student’s knowledge of various topics as well as give students a chance to compete academically against peers from Haynes Bridge as well as surrounding schools. Competitions are held on weekends at various sites. Weekend competitions can result in regional, state, and national competitions. To be eligible students must have an 85 average or better in all classes and be recommended by a Haynes Bridge faculty member.


Art Club: Art Club will be open to any student with art experience who is willing and able to work independently. Students who can set project goals for themselves and are responsible cleaner uppers are welcome to join. We will meet every other Monday of the month. Students are required to have a signed note from home stating that he/she will be picked up no later than 5:00.


Chess: The Chess Club meets weekly to provide students with the opportunity to develop and practice logical and analytical skills. Beginners are encouraged to attend and are taught the skills needed to advance to experienced players in order to participate in matches. Traditional one-on-one matches are used in addition to using teaching software (Chessmaster and Chess Tactics for Beginners). Every student is eligible. There may be monetary assessments for tournament entry fees.


Cross Country: Cross Country is a fall intramural activity held after school 4 days a week. The purpose of Cross Country is to increase Aerobic Exercise, prepare students for distance races in track, and increase student knowledge of running techniques, proper diet, training and exercise regiments. The ultimate goal is to turn students into lifelong runners. Haynes Bridge Athletic eligibility requirements must be met to participate. 


Extramurals: This is an interscholastic athletic program involving only 7th and 8th graders for the sports of soccer and volleyball (fall) and basketball (winter). These are traveling team playing against other north Fulton middle schools... The program also includes a one-day tennis tournament in fall, tumbling exhibition in winter, and track in the spring. The tennis, tumbling, and track events are open to all three grade levels. In order to participate, students must be passing 6 of 7 required courses. A physical and participation form must be completed and on file.


FCA: Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets every Thursday morning before school 7:30AM) and is open to any student. Activities include guest speakers and small music and study groups. Sponsored by parent volunteers.


Intramurals: The intramural program meets Monday – Thursday. Students in grade 6-8 compete in many different sports and activities ranging from basketball, flag football to fitness. Participants learn the rules and strategies of sports as well as sports etiquette. Open to all skill levels. Signed parent permission form required. 


Jr. Beta: Junior Beta is a national organization that recognizes students for outstanding academic, service, and leadership performance in grades 5-9 with Haynes Bridge focusing on grades 7 and 8. The club is open to seventh and eighth graders who have at least an 88 overall cumulative grade point average. Members must also demonstrate leadership in the classroom, which means “satisfactory” or better conduct grades and a good discipline record with the administration. Members must also Complete at least six hours of community service for the months of September through March. Projects include but are not limited to: canned food drive, a student tutorial program; annual Valentine Dances; selling stars to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Pennies for Patients Drive to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; shamrock sales for the Muscular Dystrophy Association; collection of aluminum pop tops to contribute to the Ronald McDonald House; campus cleanups; and Festival of Trees. 


On-Line Club: Open to any student interested in keeping the Haynes Bridge Middle School web page current. The On-Line Club meets once a week in the Productivity Lab. No previous experience needed.


Recycle Club: The Haynes Bridge Green Team promotes the development of responsible attitudes and behaviors toward the school community and the environment.  The Recycling Club will be actively involved in learning about the benefits of recycling in the school community, to include a better understanding of litter prevention and responsible solid waste management practices.  Activities will provide students with the information and skills necessary to assist them in making informed decisions toward solid waste management and its effect on people, animals and the environment.  The Green Team will meet once or twice a month to organize the recycling program and discuss grounds beautification projects at Haynes Bridge.   Meeting time will be after school, 3:45-4:45pm, the first and third Thursdays of each month and is open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th graders with good conduct and serious about recycling.. 


Student Council: The purpose of Student Council is to give all students a voice in activities, policies and decision-making of our school. Student Council’s aim is to promote student interests and awareness and to coordinate the direct participation by students. It is designed to instill a sense of government and democracy among the student body. The students participating develop leadership skills and responsibility. Student Council is charged with promoting a sense of community and good will within the school. Students are elected from each homeroom to the Council. Participation in the election requires a satisfactory or better in conduct, passing all courses, and teacher recommendation. Members meet twice a month and participate in community service projects, student recognition, publicity, and school issues.


Track: Track is a spring extramural activity held after school 4 days a week. The purpose of this activity is prepare students for high school track. Students will learn proper stretching and exercise techniques, as well the importance of diet and training. Students will undergo different training regiments depending on the race(s) in which he/she participates. The track season will culminate with the Fulton County Track meet. Haynes Bridge Athletic eligibility requirements must be met to participate. 


Yearbook: Open to all 7th and 8th graders who have a teacher recommendation, passing all subjects, and a “1” or “2” in conduct with no ISS referrals. Students work with the yearbook advisors to develop a theme for the yearbook, take pictures, organize and design the school yearbook. Students use digital cameras and computer technology to create the yearbook. The club meets one day each week with additional time needed for special assignments.


Special Note: Students must have parent permission on file in the school office to participate in ANY after school club or activity as indicated in the student agenda and as a required mandate of Georgia law. Parents must pick up students by 5:00PM in order for students to continue participation in any and all after school activities. Students are also required to sign up each morning before 10AM for the specific after school activity in which they are participating indicating parent knowledge of participation and pick up time requirement. This gives the sponsoring staff member a roster of participation and gives the administration a roster of participating students and a safety check tool.
