Daffodil Garden Planted in Memory of Holocaust

This weekend Jr. Beta members planted 500 daffodils as part of the Daffodil Project, a non-profit Holocaust Education and Awareness Organization with the goal to plant 1.5 million daffodils in memory of the 1.5 million children who died in the Holocaust and in support of the children suffering in the world today. The daffodil is used because the shape represents the yellow stars the Jews were forced to wear during Hitler’s reign and yellow is the color of remembrance. The garden represents hope of the future and the strength and resilience of the human spirit. This garden is a symbol to remind ourselves of our obligation to stand up and make a difference to uphold justice and human rights.

The daffodil garden at Haynes Bridge is the first one at a Fulton County school.  When the daffodils bloom (March) we will hold a dedication ceremony for the garden. Our goal will be to expand this garden every year and support the goal of 1.5 million daffodils planted. Thank you to our PTA provided funding to help get the project started. If you are interested in supporting this effort, we will be selling daffodil bracelets for $10 in the front office. The funds will be used to expand the garden each year.  For more information visit

Special Request from Mr. McCown, Engineering and Technology Teacher

What a wonderful community of learners we have in our classroom this year! I’m so excited to help our students learn and grow. My students are inquisitive learners and I want to be able to display their accomplishments not just visually but with sound and to do this the students need microphones!

I have registered our classroom on, an amazing website where individuals can contribute to public schools. Throughout the year, I will post requests for resources that will help make your child’s time at school even more engaging, dynamic, and enriching.

The current project for lapel mics will allow my Audio Video Students to start to learn how to record clear audio for interviews.  Additionally the mics will be used with my engineering and digital technology students when they record their projects (automata, skimmer, and robotics) and add a voice over before submitting.

Please spread the word about our classroom page (and contribute if you can)!
